Health Care Partners

Did you know? Referring patients to federal nutrition programs is the primary intervention recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for addressing food insecurity in children.

Pediatricians, social workers, and community health advocates need an easy way to stay informed about nutrition support programs.

Unfortunately, finding the right information, sharing that information, and guiding a family through available nutrition support programs can be challenging.

M4F works with professional allies and community advocates to reduce food insecurity by connecting families to free meals, money for groceries, and nutrition support.

Helping health professionals screen and intervene to reduce food insecurity.

Meals4Families provides Food and Nutrition Support advising for NC Integrated Care for Kids, an initiative that serves Medicaid-enrolled children across 5 counties in North Carolina.

We train NC InCK Family Navigators as they work to connect families with food and nutrition support programs including SNAP, WIC, free summer meals, and free school meals.

Funded by the Coordinating SNAP and Nutrition Supports grant program, our work increases access to public benefits through:

  • school partnerships

  • health systems referrals

  • improvement to digital application support

Working together to support families during the infant formula crisis.

In partnership with the National Hunger Hotline, Hunger Free America, and AAP Breastfeeding Executive Committee Member Emily A. Hannon (MD, IBCLC, FAAP), Meals4Families created an easy-to-use guide for supporting families during the infant formula shortage.

The guide helps National Hunger Hotline staff members support families that call the hotline for infant feeding guidance.

Strong state-level policies are essential to the fight and eliminate poverty and child hunger in North Carolina.

Meals4Families engages with colleagues in pediatrics and public health from Wake Forest University and Duke University to examine state-level policy options for fighting childhood hunger in NC .
